Plan transitions at stairs, bathrooms, mechanical rooms and adjoining surfaces. Floating floors also need coordinated decisions at cabinets, fixed equipment and built-ins so later movement or replacement is not obstructed.

Tile
Tile Needs a Stable, Properly Prepared Substrate
Tile can suit bathrooms, entries, bars and other areas where a hard surface makes sense. Its performance depends on the substrate, movement accommodation, setting materials, layout, grout and transitions—not only the tile itself.
